Where Heritage Inspires Innovation

At Bukelani Institute’s Creatives and Culture Practice, we believe that art, expression, and cultural heritage are more than just forms of creativity — they are powerful vehicles for transformation, healing, and inclusive development.

This practice champions the voices of artists, storytellers, performers, designers, and cultural entrepreneurs who dare to imagine and build a better world through creative expression. From rural villages to urban centres, from traditional crafts to digital media, we provide platforms for talent to thrive, stories to be told, and futures to be reimagined.

The PhotoVoice Series 2025 is an innovative community research and engagement initiative by Bukelani Institute that empowers individuals to use photography as a tool for storytelling, social change, and advocacy.

Participants will be trained to capture images and narrate them into compelling stories that reflect social, cultural, technological, and environmental themes.

The project aims to foster creativity, build technical skills, and provide a platform for underrepresented voices to engage with policymakers and creative communities.

The Marine Trails and Tales Project is designed to empower rural and township communities in KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) and the Eastern Cape to harness the economic and cultural potential of coastal and marine tourism.

By integrating community-driven initiatives, cultural storytelling, and environmental conservation, the project seeks to create sustainable livelihoods, celebrate local heritage, and foster stewardship of marine ecosystems.
